Holiday Travel Tips from CCIA

Arrival to the Airport

At CCIA, the Transporation Security Administration (TSA) lines are short and move quickly. We recommend getting here 1 - 1.5 hours before your flight if you are checking a bag or need to speak with an airline representative at the ticket counter.

If you are not checking a bag and have already checked into your flight via your airline app, we recommend getting here 45 minutes - 1 hour before your flight. This will give you ample time to go through security, use the restroom, fill up your water, and even grab a coffee or quick bite before your flight.

Travel Documents

Remember, adult passengers 18 and older must show valid identification at the airport checkpoint in order to travel. Make sure to locate your important documents at least a few days BEFORE your travel to ensure you have everything you need. The following are some forms of identification that TSA accepts, see the full list here:

  • Driver's licenses or other state photo identity cards issued by Department of Motor Vehicles (or equivalent)
  • U.S. passport
  • U.S. passport card
  • Permanent resident card

Check TSA Guidelines

Planning ahead and packing properly can facilitate the screening process and ease your travel experience at the airport. Know what you can pack in your carry-on and checked baggage before arriving at the airport by reviewing items on the TSA website. You may also contact TSA using the following:

Download Your Airline's App

Delays, cancellations, gate changes, the list goes on. It can be easy to miss announcements in a busy, loud airport. Make sure to download your airline's app to check in to your flight, change or cancel flights, and stay up to date on any changes.

Anticipate Delays or Cancellations

Busy airport terminals during winter weather can mean cancelled or delayed flights. Pack extra food and personal items (such as toiletries) in a backpack or carry-on luggage in case of delays or tight layovers.

CCIA travels to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental, and William P. Hobby Airport, which are all busy hub airports. The terminals can be far away from each other, so it's best to stay prepared with extra food and personal items, in case you don't have time to stop.
